The Rebbe on the Basis of America's Founding In the United States, there's lots of debate about the appropriate level of intersection between government and religion. Yet based on the spirit in which this country was founded and in which the constitution was written, government should have little trouble doing more to support the type of educational institutions that foster a belief in God. The results will benefit society as a whole. 10 Shevat 5735 - January 22, 1975

Lubavitcher Rebbe: Every Child Is More Precious Th... Founder and CEO of Jewish Community Watch Meyer Seewald recounts an amazing episode that occurred at the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens. On Eruv Rosh Chodesh Iyar (the day before the first of Iyar) I went to the Ohel (burial place) of the Lubavitcher Rebbe to ask his blessing for the success of an event Jewish Community Watch was holding that night in Monsey, New York. I asked that at the event victims should be empowered and to open the eyes of the community to this epidemic. I also asked for blessings for a few other things, signed my name at the bottom, and added the name of a lone soldier in the IDF who will be speaking at JCW events in Israel this upcoming week. After submitting my note to the Rebbe, I went to a room in which videos of past talks by the Rebbe are continuously playing. I sat down and started watching the video that was currently on, when to my amazement, the Rebbe addressed everything I had written in my letter just moments before! In this video, recorded in the 1980’s, the Rebbe is talking about the importance of child education and how precious each child is, but the words the Rebbe used were aimed directly at me, JCW and the community. -- We showed the video at that night in Monsey and needless to say, The event was a tremendous success. And the story doesn’t end there. During the event I got a whatsapp message from the lone soldier who will be speaking in Israel with the following message: “Oh my G-d. I just watched the video of the Rebbe then I opened the Igros. I got a letter dated Alef of Rosh Chodesh Iyar! The letter speaks about how after the Holocaust each of us has a huge responsibility to continue the avoda of those that died al kiddush Hashem and especially with regard to the children, how each one is a seed who will continue the chain of generations and generations and how it’s our responsibility to make sure they grow up with the values of Judaism and Torah.”

The Lubavitcher Rebbe On How To Choose A Mentor Torah instructs: "Provide yourself with a mentor." But how does one know who to choose as a spiritual guide? The Talmud Tractate Berachos teaches: "A mentor must be like an angel of G-d". In his code of Jewish law, Maimonides offers a clue to the conduct of an angel: He describes the future world, "when there will be no envy, rivalry, war or hatred," and concludes: "At that time the righteous will resemble the Ministering Angels." So to resemble an angel of G-d means, to be free of the corruptions of one's body. The Talmud Tractate Yevamos also offers insight: "There are three identifying signs of a Jew: He is modest, compassionate, and giving." Observe whether the potential mentor has these selfless qualities. If he does, one may confidently turn to him for spiritual direction and life-guidance. 4 Adar 5747 • March 15 1987 From Living Torah Volume 36, Episode 142 Living Torah is a member supported project Become a member today http://www.LivingTorah.org

1994: Thousands Mourn The Lubavitcher Rebbe Tens of thousands of Chasidic Jews flocked to Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood to pay tribute to Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who died here early Sunday morning at the age of 92. A monumental figure in the modern-day Jewish world who headed the Chabad movement of Lubavitcher Chasidim, Schneerson was mourned by followers around the globe, many of whom believed him to be the Messiah. At Lubavitch headquarters in Brooklyn, thousands of mourners gathered Sunday afternoon under overcast skies to join the funeral procession to the cemetery in Queens where the rebbe was laid to rest. Known to hundreds of thousands of followers worldwide as simply "the rebbe," Schneerson was seventh in a line of Lubavitch rabbis dating back to 18th century Russia. He left no heirs to assume leadership over the fervently Orthodox movement he headed for 44 years. As a result, the rebbe's death leaves a gaping leadership vacuum in the Lubavitch movement, which claims hundreds of thousands of followers worldwide, as well as Chabad outreach centers across the globe. Schneerson had been hospitalized last February after suffering repeated seizures stemming from a stroke he had in 1992, which paralyzed the right side of his body and left him bedridden and unable to communicate. On March 10, Schneerson suffered a second stroke, which doctors said "seriously weakened" the left side of his body. Though officials of the Lubavitch movement were characteristically optimistic about the rebbe's condition in his final weeks, when he lay unconscious supported by a respirator, they were forced to concede that his condition had deteriorated. During the week preceding his death, the rebbe had suffered kidney failure. At 7 p.m. Saturday, he went into cardiac arrest, but his condition was later stabilized. At 12:55 a.m. Sunday, the rebbe suffered a second cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m.

How do I Speak with People who Believe the Rebbe i... Two weeks ago I spent Shabbos by a Chabad family. I asked innocently when the Lubavitcher Rebbe passed away? (June 12, 1994 btw). He hinted that he did not believe the Rebbe had died, but did not say his beliefs openly that he was still alive as to cause a hostility. In general, and this can happen many times and in different forms, how should one deal with these type of situations when he or she is confronted? Oh Rebbe Subscribe to Moshiach Weekly! firstname.lastname@example.org The songs of the tape 'Oh Rebbe' are special in the regard that they were zoche to be listened to by non-other than the Rebbe himself. On Shabbos, 20 Menachem-Av, 5753, as the Rebbe davened Shachris in the room adjacent to the balcony the thousands of Chassidim present (including many 'campers' who had come in for Chof Av) bursted into these heart-rending songs of love and yearning for the Rebbe for over 40 minutes. It is also well known that during the years subsequent 27 Adar the 'Oh Rebbe' tape was played frequently in the Rebbe's holy room.
The Rebbe on serving in the IDF The Talmud relates that King David and his general, Yoav Ben Tzeruya, supplemented each other. David was immersed in the study of Torah, while Yoav went out to battle. If not for the merit of David's Torah, Yoav would not have been victorious in his wars, and if not for Yoav's battles, David would not have had the ability to study Torah. Today, the bravery and sacrifice of Israel's soldiers on the front lines will continue to meet success when bolstered and secured by their "spiritual supply corps" -- the Torah study of the "support troops" back home. For the Torah is our deed of ownership to the Holy Land. This partnership will keep the military miracles coming. 6 Tishrei, 5728 -- October 10, 1967 From Living Torah Volume 119 Program 474

Different Strokes for Different Folks: A Story Abo... Rabbi Raphael Aron is the director of the Gateway family Counseling Centre in Melbourne, Australia. In 1974, while running the Lubavitch Youth Organization in Melbourne, he had an audience with the Rebbe. Torah Study: Only for scholars? The Rebbe's respon... Torah describes the symbiotic relationship between the sea-faring tribe of Zevulun and the scholarly tribe of Issachar. Zevulun supported the Torah study of Issachar, and shared in the merit of that study. At the same time, Torah instructs all Jews, even the most philanthropic, not to suffice with supporting Torah scholars, but to engage in study themselves. In this talk, the Rebbe demonstrates how even the busiest of people can toil in the study of Torah, “day and night.” Purim, 5732 – February 29, 1972 From Living Torah Volume 144 Program 573

The Lubavitcher Rebbe on Feminism When G-d told Moses how to prepare the Jewish People to receive the Torah on Shavuos, He instructed him to speak to the women first, for it was the womens commitment that would inspire the rest of the Jewish People at the time of the Giving of the Torah and down through the ages. It is not surprising that the preparation for Sinai was to begin from the women and girls, for it is a fact of human nature that the tone of the household is set mainly by the woman of the house. This is why she is deemed by the Torah, The Foundation of the Home, the mainstay of the home. First and foremost, the Jewish woman must educate herself. In addition to educating their children, all parents have a sacred duty to do everything in their power to continuously grow in their own Torah learning. This certainly includes the Jewish woman, for her personal advancement in Torah study increases the education of her whole family. From Living Torah Volume 75 Episode 297 http://www.livingtorah.org
